The Vermont Air National Guard will temporarily
operate at Pease Air National Guard Base until this weekend due to scheduled
runway repairs at South Burlington VT Base.
They will have 12 F-16’s flying training missions Tues- Fri mornings

General
Aviation Apron Reconstruction/ Taxiway A OFA: Drainage swale repair and repaving by Taxiway N was
completed to eliminate ponding in that area. Concrete blocks in the corporate throat were
removed and that area was repaved as well.
The T-Hangar project is down to some punch list items. Phase 6 has begun
outside the fence with prep work for the apron extension. A T-Hangar tenant/Contractor meeting will be
scheduled for late this month or early next month in order to go over issues
from this project so far. T-Hangar tenants and owners will receive an email or
posted invitation to this meeting which will also be attended by Pike, Pike’s
insurance representative, HTA, and representatives of Pease Development
Authority. The meeting will be held at 360 Corporate Drive in the evening at a
date yet to be determined. The project will be continued in the spring of 2007.
The
Taxiway A OFA project is currently in the final phase with
some minor punch list items remaining including sealing around the Txwy lights.
Some items have been added to this project including hold lines, new markings
and signage on both ends in order to meet FAA requirements, and possibly runway
and sensor scan systems.
3. Runway Pavement Repair: On Tuesday October 10 the “hump” in the runway was
milled out and repaved. Lines will be
painted this week and joint saw and seal may not get done until next spring. Until painting is completed there will be a
NOTAM out regarding non-standard markings.
4. Sound Insulation Project: Construction
on the 10 structures in Phase 2 will begin on October 23 and be completed by
Thanksgiving. Not all of the materials are available yet as much of the items
are custom made, but work will be done simultaneously on many structures. Phase
3 homes have been identified and designed and are currently awaiting funding
approval. The third phase should go out to bid in early 2007.
5. FMQ-19: The FMQ-19 weather equipment has
been installed but a glitch on the resistance on the grounding grid was
discovered. Civil Engineers will attempt to fix the resistance. FAA maintenance and weather observer training
has also been completed. This automatic sensing device will go on the airfield
and the information will be sent to the weather observer to be validated and
released. Once the project is completed the weather observers will be moved to
the ATC tower. There will be a phone line in addition to the ATIS, but the
information provided there will not be “official.”
6. Air Service Development Project: The FAA is funding the New England Regional Airport
System Plan. Its purpose is to determine
a plan for serving the
D. Airport
Maintenance: Airfield painting is
underway. They will continue painting in addition to mowing.
E. Wildlife: There were no
strikes this week. Yesterday the quarterly wildlife meeting was held. Last
quarter was the heaviest quarter for bird strikes, but less than the same
quarter last year. Non-military reports of strikes were received and
appreciated. There was discussion regarding the success of this past season’s mowing
practices and monitoring of upland sandpipers. This year we mowed earlier to
discourage wildlife.
F. Security: The threat level remains at
In addition to the TSA’s
ADASP, a new Security Directive was also issued requiring Airport Operations and Security Agents to conduct
random checks and inspections of vehicles in the secured area.
There
have been bomb threats at airports in our general area and these were
determined to be hoaxes. If anyone hears
or receives any such threats do not blow them off. Notify airport management and TSA
immediately. Preserve the evidence
carefully: if it was by letter, do not touch the envelope or paper, if by
Email, do not delete.
Please
continue to challenge and be observant and report anything suspicious to
Airport Operations. Ground Vehicle Procedures training classes will continue to
be held in the Airport Management Conference Room,
